Coffee Facts And Figures | And Health Benefits Of Coffee

Here are a few brain-busting coffee facts and figures for coffee lovers.

Coffee Fact #10. The top 10 coffee producing nations in the world, recognised by the International Coffee Organisation are (in ascending order): Guatemala, Mexico, Uganda, Honduras, India, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Columbia, Vietnam and Brazil. Out of the top 10 the main producers are the top 3 countries with 30% of all coffee being produced in Brazil.

Coffee Fact #9. Well actually half past. Yup, 9.30 am is the optimal time to enjoy your first coffee. According to Stephen Miller, from the University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, our cortisol levels dip around this time meaning they could do with a boost. Time to set your alarm (while you’re at it set it for 1.30 pm and 5 pm too as these are also dip times).

Coffee Fact #8. An 8oz cup of coffee a day can make a big difference to your longevity. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that there’s a link between coffee drinking over a 10-year period and not dying from lifestyle-related health problems.

Coffee Fact #7. Time to get back to your maths tables. Remember how 7 x 6 is 42? Well, that’s the number of beans it takes to make an espresso, according to the British Coffee Association. Saves you counting!

Coffee Fact #6. That’s the out of 10 strength rating for Lavazza’s Classico coffee. It’s smooth, creamy, soft and fruity – what’s not to like? If that’s not strong enough we stock a range of other Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, Lavazza and Caffitaly compatible coffee capsules and pods online.

Coffee Fact #5. If you times 5 by 10 you get 50 and that’s how much you’ll pay (in $US) for the world’s most expensive cup of coffee. Not only is it pricey but the manufacturing process is a bit pongy – it’s made from elephant dung. Yes, you read that right. If you have the stomach for it you could also try a cup of delicious Luwak which is made from mongoose poo. A mere snip at $95 per kg!

Coffee Fact #4. That’s the number of different capsule brands we carry – which do you use? We stock Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, Lavazza and Caffitaly compatible coffee capsules and pods online – all under 50c!

Coffee Fact #3. Is the magic number and it’s also the number of cups a day that could help reduce your risk of dying prematurely from Alzheimer’s and Type 2 diabetes. Why? Researchers in the US have discovered that the compounds in coffee (regardless of whether it’s caffeinated or decaffeinated) reduce inflammation and insulin levels.

Coffee Fact #2. Did you know that your humble cup of coffee is loaded with vitamins and nutrients? In fact, just one cup includes 2% of your recommended dose of Niacin and Thiamine (both B vitamins) – all the more reason to drink a cup or two a day.

Coffee Fact #1. Put the date in your diary now. The 1st of October 2017 is International Coffee Day.
